May 11, 2009 Hi MBBP Subscribers, How often are we required to take a decision without all the facts? While it is not necessary and sometimes a disaster to wait for all the facts and data before we take a decision... learning to effect a critical balance is crucial to effective decision making. I always considered myself to be a leader that could make decisions with a minimum of facts and data... "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck; most likely it is a duck." That said, over the years, I developed what one of my mentors called the ability to apply "the test of reasonableness." It's the ability to evaluate data and information and quickly come to the conclusion that the facts and information do not add up and that some data and/or information need to be revisited and clarified before a logical decision can be made. Want a good training option for developing your "test of reasonableness?" Check it out at: Let's take another break from our day-to-day stress and enjoy another take-a-break story. ENJOY! Have a nice day, and stay connected.
MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU SEE Prior to the Buick Open golf tournament at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego, CA this year, they held some of the qualifying rounds at my golf club in Oceanside. My wife and I were watching the golfers tee-off from the 1st tee and were amazed at how far these guys could drive the ball. One of the players was about to address the ball on the first tee when the starter's voice came over the loud speaker and said, "Attention! The golfer on the first tee, please move your ball back to the blue markers." The golfer looked back at the clubhouse, shrugged and re-addressed his ball. "Attention, the golfer on the first tee in the red hat, if you don't mind we are playing the blue tees today not the whites, please move back to the blue markers." The golfer waved at the clubhouse and re-addressed his ball. This time the starter yelled, "Will someone tell the guy in the red cap to move back or he will be disqualified." About that time the golfer screamed back at the clubhouse, "Will someone tell that idiot this is my second shot!" Are You in Search of a New Job Opportunity?
